Our cozy home sits on 5 forested acres in Scandia, Minnesota (15 miles north of Stillwater and 15 miles south of Taylor's Falls) offering a peaceful escape with lots of outdoor space. The front deck is spacious with seating for 12. Enjoy your morning coffee on the screened-in porch, surrounded by perennial gardens. A large fire pit across the driveway includes chairs for 10, and additional chairs may be moved from the deck. Our home is architect-designed with lots of cozy nooks in the spirit of the Not So Big House book by Sarah Susanka. The main level has a large kitchen with gas stove, two dining tables, a kitchen counter that seats 5, and a cozy family room with a wood-burning fireplace. The basement is designed in an Old World European/Scandinavian theme and has a pool table, wet bar, game table, big-screen TV and a gas fireplace styled like a wood-burning stove. Outside we have a large fire pit area and a big deck that seats 12 or more people. Scandia is a great place for biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. We are 5 minutes from William O'Brien State Park on the St Croix River and 15 minutes from Interstate Park in Taylors Falls. Several lovely wineries are within a 10-20 minute drive. Scandia is home to a charming Swedish settlers' museum called Gammelgarden, and we highly recommend a tour of the museum and a visit to their gift shop. Our local farmers market is Wednesday afternoon/evening. We love to get ice cream in charming Marine on St Croix, 5 minutes south of us, and it's a 15-minute drive to Stillwater with its charming shops and amazing restaurants. PLEASE NOTE: Although our pets will not be here during your stay, guests with allergies should be aware that we have 2 cats and a dog. INTERNET: We have satellite internet due to limited options in our part of Scandia. The internet works reasonably well but is not as fast as what you will experience in the city. Additionally, satellite internet may become unavailable during thunderstorms, and it may slow down if several people in the house are using it simultaneously.

We offer a nice walk out lower level apartment with 2 bedrooms that have queen beds and extra sleeping accommodations in both bed rooms along with fireplace and TV. Another relaxing option for individuals or groups is to book a day at the full service LeGrande Spa on Forest Lake, just 7 minutes away from the Clear Lake Cottage. Glazed Memories is also an incredible art studio open to the public to come glaze pottery or paint on canvas for all ages. Taylors Falls is 25 minutes away and offers great hiking, rafting, climbing and unforgettable views in all seasons! Target (with Starbucks), Walmart, Aldi, Cub, and Home Depot are also within 8 minutes of the Clear Lake Cottage if you should need to grab any extra groceries or supplies during your stay. Clear Lake Cottage shares a long private driveway with our neighbors. This creates the perfect separation for relaxation & quiet! There is parking for a max of 8 vehicles on the driveway behind the garage. (The volleyball court, basketball hoop and kid playground are on our neighbors property, please refrain from trespassing). No RV parking is permitted due to having a narrow & shared driveway. Please observe our quiet hours listed in our house rules information. Getting around Uber & Lyft are popular apps for getting around town if you do not have personal transportation. The Hardwood Creek Regional Trail is within walking distance of Clear Lake Cottage. It is a paved, 9.5-mile multiple-use trail in all seasons. The trail consists of two parallel trails which run adjacent to State Highway 61, from County Road 8 (Frenchman Road) in Hugo to the Washington/Chisago County Line in Forest Lake. The paved trail portion is for bikers, hikers, and in-line skaters, skiers and snowshoeing. In the winter, the paved trail is not groomed. The adjacent turf trail portion is for horses in the summer and snowmobiles in the winter. The Forest Lake snowmobile club grooms the turf trail in the winter.

Our house on the St. Croix River, less than an hour from the Twin Cities, was built as a summer home by my parents, on property in the family since 1912. Set very close to the river shore, the house enjoys unparalleled river views and easy access down a short path to the shore, to great swimming, a dock and boat landing. The St. Croix River is a federally-protected National Scenic Riverway, with no development whatever on the opposite Wisconsin shore and hills directly across from our house, so the setting is pristine, quiet, and unspoiled. The water is clean, the bottom is sandy, and the swimming is great, as is the fishing. Available for renters' use is our canoe plus two kayaks. . Originally built in 1940, the house has been added to and updated over the years. The master bedroom suite was added in 1959 and renovated in 1993, and the kitchen was enlarged and fully remodeled in 1993. Facing the river is a flagstone terrace, outside fireplace, front lawn with eating table, comfortable seating, a hammock, and birdfeeders with numerous visitors. Our hummingbirds, goldfinches and woodpeckers are regulars here, and you're sure to hear and see the spectacular pileated woodpecker if you keep the peanut feeder filled. There are three bedrooms with twin beds, plus a screened sleeping porch closest to the river with two more beds. One bathroom has a tub and shower and the other bath has a stall shower. In addition there is an excellent outside shower, great after a swim.The kitchen is fully equipped, has a round eating table plus a pass-through to the dining area of the living room. The kitchen also has a built-in sofa bed for an occasional visitor, or for relaxing while dinner is cooking. The large living room is comfortably furnished, has a bow-front with large windows facing the river, and a wood-burning fireplace. Kitchen and master bedroom both have ceiling fans and there are several portable fans. Close to the house is our nice shady tennis court. Our deep shady ravine offers exploring adventures with a spectacular double waterfall and pristine stream that flows into the river next to the house. Fishing is good up and down the shoreline or from the dock. Next to the property is a public boat-launching ramp, and just a mile south is the William O'Brien State Park, with camping sites, hiking trails, river access with a boat launching ramp and a separate swimming pond with sandy beach. The closest town, 10 minutes south, is the historic village of Marine-on-St-Croix, once a major sawmill for the white pine logging industry during the mid-to-late 19th and early 20th century, when huge log drives were the principal traffic on the river. The larger town of Stillwater,18 miles south on the river, was also a major center of the lumberjack era and today offers antique shops, paddlewheel steamboats and numerous restaurants. The town of Taylor's Falls, known for rock climbing and another Interstate Park, is an equal distance upriver to the north.

Located on a low traffic private road on the North shore of Clear lake. This house is right on Clear Lake - a great lake for swimming, fishing, boating and other recreational activities. Sand bottom lake with a gradual slope is great for the kids! Boat launch is within walking distance and you’ll have your own dock for fishing and swimming. We also have 2 kayaks for your use. There is a private deck with a great view that includes a gas grill and outdoor patio set. Biking trail is about ½ mile away. Running Aces Casino is nearby as well as a few golf courses in the area. Only minutes away from shopping and dining in Forest Lake and is only 30 minutes from downtown St. Paul or Minneapolis. Come enjoy this cozy one level lake house with full bath and 2 bedrooms (linens included). The master bedroom has a queen size bed with a great view of the lake. The 2nd bedroom room has a bunk bed with a full on the bottom and a twin mattress on top with rails. The sofa pulls out into a full-sized bed in the living room. Beds comfortably sleep 2 adults and 2 children or 4 adults total. Not very suitable for 6 adults, but could work. Our kitchen is fully equipped with cooking basics, a fridge, electric range, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, dishes, pans and utensils. There is also a washer and dryer in the house for your use. The living room has a TV with most local channels, a DVD player and a PlayStation 3. Wifi is also included. No Pets and no smoking in the house. We apologize we cannot accommodate your pet, but we would be happy to point you to a local kennel. Sorry, we cannot allow parties/rowdy or large groups. Our apartment for rent is located on our 54 acre property. The building was built to look like a big red barn. It is a 3 story building and the 3 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment is on the 3rd floor. The barn building is nestled on 5 acres of field and our small apple orchard where it is quiet and peaceful. We decorated the apartment in farm style decor with barn board paneling and it has a rustic country home feel. We are located just 1/2 mile from Square Lake Beach and our country roads are perfect for bike riding, walking, or running.

The deck is large enough for relaxing meals, lounging with a book on the couch or listening to the loons in the rocker. After a fun day of water activities and yard games, unwind with a glass of wine and a memorable sunset. Our home is self managed, which means you will have the utmost cleanliness and attentiveness that you require. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need to bbq, bake, cook and everything in between. The living room provides a comfortable gathering space for you and your family. Families can get cozy for a fun movie and game night! There is even a gas fireplace for the chilly winter nights! The 3 bedrooms are relaxing and comfortable. There are two king size beds and one queen bed. Sheets & extra blankets provided. There are two full bathrooms (one with a whirlpool tub). Towels and beach towels provided. The space: The owners do live on-site and have a dog and cat that roam the property, if you have allergies you may want to consider that. We offer for an additional charge: firewood (after first complimentary bundle). There is no smoking allowed anywhere on the property in the house or on the grounds. We require that you do some lite cleaning upon check out: Dishes must be washed and drying in the sink or in the dishwasher. Fridge/freezer must be clean. All beach items must be returned to storage areas. We do not allow gatherings or partying - there is a beach across the lake if you are having guests. Our beach is for registered guests only. We do not tolerate drugs or excessive alcohol use. We prefer no noise after 12 pm on weekdays and 2:00 on the weekends (inside or outside the home - contact owners for concerns or exceptions). If a fire in the outdoor fire pit is started it must be put out by 1:00 am. All registered guests must have a government issued photo I.D. Minimum age of renter is 25 years old. No overnight guests allowed. No fireworks. No pets allowed. Lifejackets must be worn according to state laws.

Whatever amenity your family needs to feel at home, we’ve got it. An electric fireplace and forced air heat will keep you nice and toasty even in a winter snowstorm. In the summertime, the air conditioning will keep you cool. The home is 2 bedrooms and 1 & 1/2 bath, with the master bedroom containing a queen size select comfort bed. The private children’s room contains a bunk bed with rails, pull out trundle bed along with toys and books. For additional space, the family room closes off with barn doors and the sofa pulls out into a queen-sized bed. The home also contains a smart TV for your entertainment, and a desk in case you need to get some work done. Wifi included. Our newly remodeled private bathroom contains a bathtub with shower. There is also a half-bath in the laundry closet for your convenience. Our kitchen is fully equipped with cooking basics, a fridge, electric range, microwave, coffee maker, crockpot, blender, toaster, dishes, and utensils. We have plenty of extras for babies or kids, including a travel crib, highchair, umbrella stroller, and plastic dishware & utensils. Lots of games, toys, books, and outdoor play activities are included as well! THE LAKE Coon Lake is a beautiful and clean lake that is perfect for fishing, boating, and swimming. Walk out the backdoor and down a few steps to a private sandy-bottom swim area and dock. Your children can play in the swingset, sandbox or with one of the many water toys you will have access to. This is truly a fisherman’s paradise. Anglers can catch Northern Pike, Largemouth Bass, and Bluegill sunfish. Bring your own gear. Kids will enjoy catching sunfish right from the dock! There is also a canoe available to relax out on the lake. You are welcome to bring your own boat. While there is no boat launch on our lake, the larger connecting lake does. Feel free to park your boat in our driveway, and load in each day at the lake access, just a few miles away. If you have a small fishing boat, it will fit through the canal under the bridge connecting the two lakes, you are welcome to dock your boat at our dock. (Send us a message to see if your boat will fit.) Kayaks and paddleboards are welcome. In the wintertime, you can skate and ice fish right out the backdoor. Bring your own gear. The backyard slopes down to the lake, so kids can sled down. There is also a huge sledding hill a mile away. Snowmobiles are welcome! We have direct access from the lake to several MN State trails in the area. **THE HOSTS** When we are not traveling in our converted bus with our 4 and 6-year-old boys, we live on our property in the bus, parked next to the house. We are usually there during Minnesota's best months, May-September. When we are parked at home, the entire house still is available for guests, and the backyard will be a shared space. There are 2 backyard patio spaces (upper and lower) and 2 bonfire spaces, so that you as a guest can have your own space to hang out outside. THE COMMUNITY Our home is located in a safe, family-friendly community, with a playground within walking distance and plenty of places nearby to bike and hike. If you’re hungry for some good local food, Smokey’s Pub and Grill offers mouth-watering BBQ. Acapulco Mexcian Restaurant is also close by, as well as Maxx Bar & Grill and Masetti’s Italian Food. ++ FINAL INFORMATION BEFORE BOOKING ++ Our cabin was built in 1940, and in true “vintage cabin” appeal, it is on the smaller side, at 800 square feet, and has slightly uneven floors in areas, along with mismatched trim and paneling. We’ve pulled out the charm by painting it modern matching colors. Please also note that the ceilings range from 7 to 7.5 feet tall throughout the sections of the house. No Pets. We apologize we cannot accommodate your pet, and we would be happy to point you to a local boarder. There will be a minimum $200 pet cleaning fee if evidence of pet is found. We are not responsible for accidents at the house or on property. Use the lake at your own risk.
